Dear UNISON Members,

You would have seen the email that went out to staff on Friday 29 July, from Goldsmiths Communications.

Since October 2021, both GUCU and UNISON were in dispute with Goldsmiths leading to industrial action taken by UNISON on behalf of our members. During this time UNISON have attended many meetings with SMT through the collective conciliation mediated by ACAS.

Together with the support of our Regional Officers the Branch have agreed to end industrial action together with GUCU, who have agreed to end the marking boycott.

UNISON Branch would like to thank all of our stewards for their commitment to collective action for our members.

What UNISON have agreed to in fairness and principle?

  • To end the ‘failure to agree’ notice submitted in 2021 at the start of the Recovery Programme.
  • An emphasis on the importance of full compliance to Equality Impact Assessments (EIA) from Goldsmiths as an institution with full ‘constructive’ engagement of that process with UNISON and GUCU going forward.

Commitments from Goldsmiths

  • UNISON has secured a commitment of no compulsory redundancies as part of Tranches 2-4 of the recovery programme.

We would like to thank our members who in the spirit of collective support became UNISON Representatives during this time. Giving our branch and members a stronger voice during the ongoing negotiation process has meant that after 10 years, our Branch has a stronger mandate, backed by its membership for the future of professional staff working here at Goldsmiths.

Your Sincerely,
Goldsmiths UNISON Branch
