Please come to this LGBTQ Staff Network event! It’s a fundraiser for UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG).

Goldsmiths’ LGBTQ Staff Network presents ‘Mr Gay Syria’ – Film Screening and Q&A with Leila Zadeh, Executive Director of UKLGIG.

Date and Time: Tuesday 26th February 2019, 17:30 – 20:00

Mr Gay Syria follows two gay Syrian refugees who are trying to rebuild their lives. Husein is a barber in Istanbul, living a double life between his conservative family and his gay identity. Mahmoud is the founder of Syria’s LGBTI movement and is a refugee in Berlin. What brings them together is a dream: to participate in an international beauty contest as an escape from their trapped lives and an answer to their invisibility.

Goldsmiths’ LGBTQ Staff Network are pleased to invite you to join us for a screening of the award winning documentary ‘Mr Gay Syria’ to mark LGBT History Month which takes place annually in February.

We are also excited to host Leila Zadeh, Executive Director of UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG), who will be telling us more about the great work they do in supporting LGBTQIA+ people through the asylum and immigration process and will be taking questions from the audience.

The screening will be free and open to all staff, students and external guests with a suggested donation of £5 going to support UKLGIG. Donations will be taken on the door.

Please register your attendance on the Eventbrite page.

We recommend early booking as there are a limited number of tickets for this event. Places will be booked on a first come, first serve basis.
