Last weekend, our LGBT UNISON members proudly marched through London showing our pride in UNISON and pride in being a part of the LGBT Community. Unfortunately, a small group of anti-trans protesters managed to also march in the parade and displayed hateful banners and handed out transphobic leaflets. This is completely unacceptable and goes against the work of UNISON who fight discrimination and prejudice in the workplace both locally and nationally on behalf of its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) members.
Goldsmiths’ UNISON Branch offer solidarity with our Trans community and wish to reiterate that transphobia has no place in Pride and no place in UNISON or our workplaces.
We will continue to work together to ensure that our work for diversity, equality, and inclusion are not overshadowed by messages of hate. Together we are stronger in UNISON.
